I have an appt. with my cardiologist soon for an echocardiogram and want to be able to ask informed questions. My GP heard a whooshing sound. Comments:My wife, Gerry, has been diagnosed with a leaky mitral valve requiring repair or replacement. She is 79 (I am 82). I am not sure whether that fits the definition of MVP. However the treatment seems to be the same. She took some kind of medication for about six months but the condition continued to worsen. The team of heart specialists now recommend the above and surgery has been scheduled. My wife is very frightened and overwhelmed by it all.

Comments: Ever since i nearly bled to death last year from a maternal hemmorage {because of a piece of placenta that was left in my uterus for two months}I havent been the same person i use to be. I lost two days worth of blood,{because the doctor sent me back home from the emergency room telling me "that's normal"}. The following day i was going to go to the walk in clinic but the bleeding got very severe. I winded up calling the ambulance,and being taken to the emergency room, with my blood count down

Comments:I was diagnosed approximately 5 years ago. Never really had any symptoms to talk about, nothing major. On May 18,2000 and since, I became extremely short of breath, palpitations, fluttering, anxiety, etc. I am on Inderol 2 times a day and it seems to be helping - I don't have as much of the palpitation, etc. My husband and I are planning on a family. Comments:I have been diagnosed with Mitral and Tricuspid valve regurgitation. I currently take 100mg of Aetenolol in the morning and 50 mg at night. My Dr. has had me on the Holter monitor and it recorded 7 V-tachs while I was sleeping. A few of the arrythmias were recorded during the day but I seem to have "good" days and "bad" days. Comments:I was asked by my doctor if I was ever told I had mitral valve prolaspe. I asked him about it, and he said that it was not a big deal. I also had an EKG that was borderline abnormal, but my doctor said that it was OK to have anesthesia. I have also had dental planing, and no one seems concerned about my havnig MVP. I am concerned that I am not getting the whole picture.

Comments:Thank you for the information on your web site. I was searching for more information on MR rather than MVP, and how one can get proper diagnois concerning same. I know that I had on two Color Dopplers show trivial MR, but I also know that MR will not always show on a Color Flow Doppler if blood is flowing against the walls rather than straight out.

Comments:Nice job Paula! I was diagnosed in 9/99 with MVPS,although I had symptoms of the disorder as far back as I can remember. Symptoms became worse after mitral valve surgery June of 1999. I will just have to learn to live with it. Thank you for your work.
